“The only thing better than singing is more singing.”

-Ella Fitzgerald

When your speech is interrupted, it gives wings to your voice. No statement could be more true than for Evan Schelton. Suddenly affected by a developmental stutter at the age of seven, Evan found himself struggling for every word, every sentence. Almost overnight, his speech no longer flowed, and his thoughts and dreams were stuck in his head. Unable to express himself as he always had, he adapted by singing what he wanted to say.

With the help of an experienced speech pathologist and multiple therapies and exercises, Evan was encouraged to join a theater group for children as a way to cope and adapt to new speech patterns. This group led him to a vocal coach who quickly discovered an incredible classical voice hidden within his young, stuttering vocal cords. Music became Evans’s primary form of communication. Singing enabled Evan to make people laugh or cry…and feel emotion, while he gained confidence in his voice. He became obsessed with singing and music.

Evan graduated with his Master’s in Classical Voice from the Jacobs School of Music and completed his Bachelor’s at the Manhattan School of Music. His current career goal is to perform on stages around the world. Evan has opened his vocal studio, working with singers of all ages.
